  The anchor product is the new, 2005 edition of The Family Bible Library, by noted Christian educator, author, and editor Dr. V. Gilbert Beers. A highly successful product for Southwestern in years past, The Family Bible Library has recently been re-designed, newly illustrated, and refocused. With a strong emphasis on character-building, it develops an understanding of scriptural principles through stories drawn directly from the Bible. Dr. Beers has identified thirty-six traits of character, all exemplified in the lives of Christ, the apostles, and many other godly people in the Bible. The traits are presented in a systematic program that enables parents to teach — and their children to learn — these crucial aspects of proper living.

More than 100,000 young people have participated in Southwestern's direct sales summer program, and millions of lives have been impacted through its products—Christian-based books, Bibles, study Bibles, children's books and secular reference books. The common thread has always been to help provide families with the resources they need to do the best job possible in preparing children for happy, productive, and moral lives. The first century of Southwestern's product lines featured almost exclusively Bibles and religious products. Over the course of the last forty years many more educational books and more recently, interactive CD-ROMs, have been added to the product line.
Southwestern is returning to its roots in 2005, launching a new division—Family Resources—that will provide Christian-based products to be used as a part of a family's resource material. The tremendous success of Christian-based novels like the Left Behind series, Mel Gibson's film The Passion of the Christ, and the rapid increase in the number of families who home-school shows the readiness of American families for these materials.
Dr. Beers has written more than 150 books, countless articles and newsletters, and is the past editor of Christianity Today. Through his decades of work and extensive travels throughout the Holy Land, he has learned how to present Biblical truths in a way that is engaging, easy to grasp, and profound in its impact on young people. At the same time, the program is written so that families spending no more than 15 or 20 minutes a day using The Family Bible Library can realize its benefits.
